i think system security is very important, especially since the main applications are known to be insecure...

It is important to have a nat'ed network for researches, cause we need internet. We should certainly run grsec inside the exposed hosts. The internal clone of the gamebox was nice for testing, too. But besides this, we need more people logged into the real machine, more people watching logs, reading the real sourcecode, etc.
Might help to keep the systems configuration, applications and the exploits, patches in a subversion repository though.
